Kenyans eager to gain global exposure and advance their teaching careers now have an opportunity to work in France through a program by the French Embassy in Nairobi.

Applications are open for the 2026–2027 English Language Teaching Assistant Programme, which will see 170 Kenyan students and graduates placed in public schools across France and its overseas territories for seven months.

The assistants will help French learners improve their English while immersing themselves in the country’s culture and educational system. The program also aims to build professional experience and foster cultural exchange between Kenya and France.

According to the French Embassy, the initiative targets university students, TVET trainees, and recent graduates who meet the eligibility requirements.

“This is a great platform for young Kenyans to strengthen their teaching skills, experience French culture firsthand, and contribute to educational exchange,” the Embassy said in its announcement.

Application Details

Applications will be accepted from November 15, 2025, to January 15, 2026.

  • Pre-selection will take place in January 2026.

  • Interviews are scheduled between January and February 2026.

  • Final results will be announced in May 2026, with official placements confirmed by June 2026.

Applicants are advised to submit all required documents within the application window to avoid disqualification.

To qualify, candidates must:

  • Be between 20 and 35 years old.

  • Be enrolled in a university, TVET institution, or Alliance Française.

  • Have completed most of their studies in Kenya.

  • Possess at least a B1 level proficiency in French.

The program is part of France’s broader goal to strengthen educational and linguistic partnerships worldwide.

For many Kenyan participants, the experience goes beyond teaching—it offers a chance to live abroad, engage with French communities, and expand career opportunities internationally.

Past participants have praised the initiative for its blend of hands-on teaching experience, cultural immersion, and personal growth, often describing it as a launchpad for future opportunities both locally and abroad.

With 170 openings available, the upcoming cohort represents one of the largest opportunities yet for Kenyan students to gain valuable teaching experience while exploring life in France.
